This week, we dive into the multifaceted world of Sonny James, a dynamic DJ, producer, artist, and A&R representative at Serato. In an engaging conversation with Sean Kantrowitz - Director of Media & Content at FYI, Sonny shares his journey from a young music enthusiast in Philadelphia to a pivotal figure in the DJ community.

Sonny opens up about his musical upbringing, influenced by a family of musicians and his early fascination with DJing in the early '90s. He recounts the challenges of learning the craft without modern resources like YouTube, relying instead on trial and error, a passion for records, and the guidance of local DJs.

As Sonny reflects on his evolution in the music industry, he discusses his transition from DJing to working at Serato, highlighting the unique blend of artist relations and content creation that defined his early days at the company. He shares insights on the importance of building relationships with artists and how he navigates the ever-changing landscape of DJing, especially with the advent of technology and AI integration in music.
