Description

“Same As It   Never Was” is an account of Gregory Michie’s return to teaching Middle School   in Chicago Public Schools. Michie left teaching to become a university   professor, teaching the next generation of teachers. Although hesitant to   return to teaching, Michie accepted is old/new position at an inner city,   high minority public school in south-side Chicago. Against the backdrop of   teacher strikes and anti-testing protests, the movement for Black lives and   the deepening of anti-immigrant sentiment, this book invites readers into an   award-winning teacher’s classroom as he struggles to teach towards equity and   justice in a time where both are elusive for too many children in our nation’s   schools. (from description) For many teachers, this book resonates as real   life; and for non-educators, this book is a wake-up call for them to be more   active in their school communities.
