Description

In this episode, I had the privilege of speaking with Peter Mondavi Jr., third generation member of the Mondavi family and co-owner of Charles Krug Winery, the oldest winery in Napa Valley.

The Mondavi name is recognized around the world, but behind the legacy lies a story of deep generational differences, including a famous split between Peter’s father and his uncle, Robert Mondavi. What inspired me most is how this generation chose a different path one rooted in trust, governance, and long term vision.

Peter shared how his branch of the family transitioned from an informal structure to a fully professionalized organization with a board of directors, outside leadership, and clear agreements to protect both the business and the family.

In this conversation, we talked about:

* The story behind the Mondavi split

* What they did to rebuild trust and prevent history from repeating

* How they’ve prepared the next generation with education and intention

* Why governance matters just as much as estate planning

And what it really means to preserve a family legacy across time

If you’re part of a family business or help others navigate them, I think this episode will give you practical tools and real inspiration.
