It's October tenth, and on this day in 1970... Elvis Presley was officially appointed a Special Deputy Sheriff of Shelby County, Tennessee. In a private ceremony during his stay in Memphis, the Sheriff presented Elvis with an official badge that granted him the legal authority to carry a pistol. A lifelong admirer of law enforcement, Elvis was especially proud of this honor—made even more meaningful by the personal security concerns he faced during his Las Vegas performances.
