James Baldwin wrote in a 1962 essay "The white man's unadmitted -- and apparently, to him, unspeakable -- private fears and longings are projected onto the Negro."
LET'S TAKE THE COUCH
We know that overall Black people are targeted more by the police or treated unfairly by the Justice system. More black men experience significant challenges than white men and have higher levels of worry.
Many black men have faced traumatic experiences in their lives. In a Washington Post/Kaiser Family Foundation/Harvard 2011 study entitled “The Race and Recession Survey,” more black men than white men reported having a close friend or relative who was murdered (61 percent and 29 percent, respectively), wrongfully arrested (31 percent, 16 percent), or the victim of a violent crime (25 percent, 18 percent).
Today's episode is, "Black Men in Masks". Did the sight of Black men in masks intensify the previously existing fears that Whites have for Black men?
And of course, let's explore solutions to improve race relations in America.
