On today’s episode, I’m chatting to one of India’s first electronic dance music producers and DJs. Raised in a traditional New Delhi family of chartered accountants, his career path was set out for him before he was even born. One evening having celebratory drinks following the completion of an accountancy exam, the young creative spotted a poster for a Dutch DJ who was playing a gig in his area and he never looked back. Taking music production classes at an academy in secret, he quickly realised he had quite the talent for it and began uploading his tracks to social media where they quickly gained traction. Becoming the first Indian to sign with Hardwell’s record label, things were snowballing for him until right before his first international gig in 2015 when tragedy stuck with the passing of his father. A pivotal point in his career, it was from that moment he decided to really go for it and seven years later he is a pioneer in his field and one of India’s best. Opening for artists such as Justin Bieber Martin Garrix and Steve Aoki, here’s what it’s like to be Sartek.
