There's been a lot of speculation since the Indians' season ended that the team was going to have to cut salary, and Yan Gomes was a name that has been frequently mentioned as a potential trade candidate. Gomes had a $7 million dollar guarantee in 2019, with two club options in 2020 and 2021 worth $20 million total. While it doesn't clear a ton of money in 2019, it does likely begin a process in which the Indians try and maintain their status as a World Series contender, while shedding salary and bringing in younger players.
