Story text
Tea is a popular drink in many parts of the world. In North Africa, people add mint to it. In the Middle East, people add cardamom. In the USA, people drink it iced. Yet, despite these regional preferences and particularities, tea is still considered to be very British. Tea's importance in the UK is deep-rooted, with its history stretching back to the 17th century. Changes in tax policies in 1784 made it a daily necessity rather than a luxury. In the 18th century, all global tea exports went through London, making it the global hub of this popular drink. The British method of making tea is just one among many worldwide, yet it holds an important place in British identity.
