Description

What started as a cry for justice after a bloody massacre and delivering war news by balloons, became one of the most fearless newspapers on Earth.

It began with rage, the outrage of the 1819 Peterloo Massacre in Manchester. Out of that chaos, a group of reformers created The Manchester Guardian, a paper devoted to truth and independence. Decades later, its reporters were sending war news by balloons from a besieged city. Two centuries later, The Guardian won a Pulitzer Prize for the Snowden leaks, exposing the biggest whistleblower story in modern history.

In this episode of mediaHISTORY podcast, discover how one newspaper fought corruption, defied governments, and built a legacy of fearless reporting that still shapes journalism today.
