Jesus walks on water (Matthew 14:22–32, Genesis 1:1-2, Exodus 3:13-14)
Water is often a symbol of chaos and godlessness. For Jesus to walk on water makes a statement that He is GOD, and that He is not subject to the physical laws of this world as you and I are. So on the one hand, He is transcendent over nature and evil.
On the other hand, He is within an arm’s length of Peter when he falls. He is here and within reach. Peter takes the audacious step of faith to come to Jesus and walk on the water himself! It isn’t until his eyes are taken off the Lord’s eyes does he succumb to the reality of the wind and water. "Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him." What a great illustration of how God has reached out His divine hand to humanity to pull us out of the grip of chaos which sin has created.
