In order to understand how the story unfolds from here, you need to know that in Acts 8:1, a great persecution breaks out. The church was all pretty much in Jerusalem at that time. Likely 10,000 people were following Jesus and the authorities did not like it. So they began killing Christians like Stephen and throwing them in jail.
