This week, we return to that treasured 2000s YouTube genre, the Harry Potter parody.
A Very Potter Musical (AVPM) was staged at the University of Michigan for a modest three night run in 2009. Two months later, the cast uploaded an amateur recording of the performance to YouTube. Harry Potter fans, starved of content following the conclusion of the series, would latch on to the musical and propel the recording and star Darren Criss to fame. The success of AVPM led to the formation of StarKid Productions, which would produce sequels and later original musicals.
We chat about our experience watching a remaster of the original AVPM, our favourite moments, and how the production compares to other Wizarding World stage shows, official and otherwise.
