Chapter 61

Bravo continues his work inside the warehouse, constructing a makeshift barrier by stacking steel drums ten feet from the rear wall and filling them with water. As he works, an unexpected car pulls into the lot, forcing him to shut off the hose and investigate quickly. Stepping outside, Bravo encounters a security officer conducting routine patrols. Maintaining his cover, Bravo calmly explains that he is conducting an experiment and that he has the owner's permission to use the warehouse temporarily. Through confident conversation and subtle flattery, he reassures the guard, learns details about the patrol schedule, and persuades him to inform his partner of Bravo’s presence. Although the situation is defused, Bravo remains uneasy, aware that the security company or a potential lessee could still expose his deception. He secures the warehouse for the night and waits for Derek to return.

Later, Tony returns to his hotel emotionally drained after a difficult day. His conversation with FBI agent Javon Morris left him frustrated, and witnessing Steven’s continued psychological decline weighs heavily on him. Accepting that Steven will likely need to be transferred to a specialized treatment facility, Tony steels himself for the possibility of limited contact to support Steven’s recovery. Remembering his promise, Tony calls Jennifer to update her. He explains that the FBI’s questioning has worsened Steven’s condition and that the decision to move him may soon be taken out of Steven’s hands. He also shares his disappointment that the FBI dismissed his theory linking the three threatening messages, though they do suspect a connection between Steven’s attack and the message Tony received.

Jennifer offers reassurance, expresses concern for Steven, and encourages Tony, reminding him of his persistence and determination. Their conversation ends on a subdued but supportive note, with Jennifer still undecided about Tony’s job offer and Tony clearly exhausted yet resolute in facing the challenges ahead.
