The righteous are driven by desire, and the righteous alone will have their deepest desires fulfilled. Beneath the deep “no” is a deeper “yes.” All promises find their “yes and amen” in Jesus Christ. As Augustine wrote on page 1 of his scandalous Confessions, “O God, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”
