Non-specific low back pain (or common low back pain) affects people of all ages and is a major contributor to the global burden of disease.
Management recommendations call for triage to identify rare cases of low back pain caused by serious pathology, which therefore require diagnostic work-up, referral to a specialist, or both. Given that non-specific low back pain has no known patho-anatomical cause, the main aim of treatment is to reduce the pain and its consequences. Treatment is based on patient education and reassurance, analgesic medication, non-pharmacological therapies and regular follow-up.
