Chapter 10 Summary: “Interrogations”
Edward drives Bella to school, where Jessica eagerly awaits gossip. He suggests Bella simply say they’re dating. In trig, Jessica questions her, and Bella shares just enough—mentioning the surprise in Port Angeles, their weekend plans, and that they haven’t kissed. She adds, for Edward’s benefit, that she’s unsure how much he likes her but senses depth beyond his looks.
At lunch, Bella sits with Edward, drawing attention from students and the Cullens. He’s annoyed she doubts his feelings and reminds her that on her first day, every boy at school had thoughts about her. Bella still insists she’s ordinary.
They talk about hunting: Emmet prefers grizzlies, Edward mountain lions. They hunt without weapons, using their hands and teeth, and avoid depleting animal populations. Predators are more exciting prey than deer or elk.
