Description

In this episode of Moral Medicine, Ardalan discusses the devastating affects Finasteride has had on his life after taking the medication for almost 10 years. For the first several years, Ardalan took Finasteride without any major side effects, but around the 4th year, he began developing debilitating cognitive issues that deeply affected his life. Not connecting the medication to his symptoms, he continued taking it for several more years. Once he discovered the medication was causing his neurological issues, he came off it, and his symptoms only became worse.

Post-Finasteride Syndrome (PFS) is the current term for a rare syndrome characterized by devastating physical, neurological, and sexual side effects that persist and progress even after stopping finasteride. This condition occurs primarily in younger men who have taken the drug to treat hair loss, and there is currently no effective treatment available.

PFS has a disastrous impact on patients, their families, and their friends. It often leads to disability, isolation, and even suicide. Every person is valuable, and everyone deserves to make a fully informed choice about their health.

More research into Post-Finasteride Syndrome is desperately needed. Learn more about and support the newest scientific initiative here: https://www.pfsnetwork.org/science
