Stay informed with a quick rundown of important news from Austin ISD.

This podcast episode covers updates on the Recommended School Consolidation and Boundary Change Plan, Cybersecurity Awareness Month and upcoming events.

The district has released its recommended plan, which proposes consolidating 13 schools and adjusting boundary lines. This revision follows a draft released on October 3rd. The community is able to provide feedback on the recommended plan at a Q&A Session on Nov. 8 at the Delco Activity Center (4601 Pecan Brook Dr, Austin, TX 78724).

Next, we shift focus to essential safety information during Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Experts warn the community about "spoofing"—emails or texts that appear to come from legitimate sources, such as an Austin ISD staff member, but are actually spam. Families are reminded to always verify the sender, as Austin ISD staff will never ask individuals to purchase gift cards or share password information. If a suspicious message is received, the recommendation is to forward the email to junkemail@austinisd.org and then delete it.

Finally, we highlight a fantastic, free community event: the Austin High School Monster Concert & Carnival Fundraiser. This event is open to the public from 12:00-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1. It takes place at the Austin High School Performing Arts Center and Grounds. Attendees can enjoy free concerts from 12 area schools and youth programs, including Austin High’s award-winning orchestras, as well as performances by Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders, Crockett Early College High School, Northeast Early College High School, Covington Middle School, Kealing Middle School, Lively Middle School, Marshall Middle School, O. Henry Middle School, Small Middle School, Mathews Elementary School Lee Elementary School orchestras.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased for games and the haunted house. All funds raised go to support orchestra education at Austin High and local schools, including scholarships, instrument maintenance, competition fees and travel, and more.
