Dr. Sowmya Kallur, Austin-based pediatric intensive care physician, joins Dinesh and Seema this week for an exploration of what it means to experience falling short of expectations placed on us by our culture, society, and colleagues–and most importantly, by ourselves. Dr. Kallur shares an intimate glimpse into what it’s like to be in charge of life and death situations where children are involved, and how the other pieces of life fall into place for her as she navigates being single, failing board exams, and her choice to keep growing into the best version of herself. Dr. Kallur inspires and motivates by sharing the lessons she’s learned along the way, as well as destigmatizes what it means to fail. For anyone who’s ever fallen short of expectations, this is an empowering episode you won’t want to miss.
About Sowmya:
Sowmya grew up in Kansas City, an only child of hard working supportive south Asian parents. She went to a 6 year medical program at UMKC, and then did her residency in at Children’s Mercy Hospital and Clinics, followed by a pediatric critical care fellowship at UT Houston Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. She is currently an attending physician at McLane Children’s hospital where she is pursing not only her passion of critical care but also educating and training young physicians for the next phase in their career. In her down time Sowmya loves to travel with family and friends, spend time with her overly spoiled puppy KC and enjoy the many outdoor adventures that Austin has offer as well as trying new restaurants.
