I started writing poetry back in the early ’90s. It began through my own life experiences and listening to others which inspired me to put pen to paper. I started exploring this newfound way of expressing myself and never once thought of it as a talent. It was a way for me to express my experiences on paper, making an impact on me and then on others as they listened to the words written in the air.
The Black Women’s Association, a talent organization, opened my eyes to the world of Poetry and Open Mic. They invited me to my first Open Mic session. From there I performed at various other establishments through the Open Mic circuit in South West London.
Around the same time, I used to run a mobile video business, back in the days of VHS tape and blockbusters. I wanted to take the poetry further, so I used the customer base of my video business and designed a flyer (pre-internet times) and created interest with my video customers; this was the beginning of personalized bespoke poetry. I received orders from my customers to write poems for them and their loved ones on a variety of different topics.
This developed into Poetic Impulses, a platform for people to express theirs or others' life experiences in a poetic format, which can be gifted so the words can be preserved for all time. Poetic Impulses has two sides of the business the personalized bespoke poetry and poetry products.
One of the products available is the Zodiac Poetry, which is your Zodiac Star sign written to the characteristics of each star signs traits, beautifully presented on gold or silver paper in an elegant frame. There are other poems on the horizon such as the Egyptian Birth Signs which are represented by the Egyptian Gods and offer a different insight into our birth signs.
