It's time, for the guys to go back to high school, this week! Long-time high school softball coach, baseball coach, and Sam's 7th-grade P.E. teacher, Aaron Willard joined the #Lounge!
As the Athletic Director and current head baseball coach, Aaron works on making his boys better each day, along with keeping the entire athletic department running smoothly! He talks about how he got into coaching, and how he approaches coaching kids who are at a young and impressionable age. Who were some coaches who influenced him, growing up? How do you handle parents who want to "talk?" What win does he remember most? The answer..? Is a REALLY good one!
Sam brings up the fact that Aaron was one victory away from being the only coach in the state of Indiana to win a state title in softball (Class 1A state title in 1998) and baseball (Class 2A runner-up in 2021), and if there was any thought about the accomplishment leading to the state finals? He also brings up the rain delay and team meeting during the 1998 state finals and talks about the leadership he had with that team.
With over 500 victories as a softball coach, and over 100 as a baseball coach, has he given ANY thought about that leading him to become a Hall of Fame coach? How much longer does he intend on coaching? He's in his last travel ball season with his youngest son, why is that a good thing?
He was also Sam's 7th-grade P.E. teacher... he had NOTHING to say about Sam as a student, soooo... that's a good thing? Sam & Richey had a great time chatting with Aaron! It was something they REALLY enjoyed since they both coach, and love high school sports!
After they signed off with Aaron, Sam & Richey decided to "Just Chat!" Since Little Matt wasn't here, they couldn't have a "Let's Chat!" so, like last week, when Little Matt & Sam had a chat, they officially named the segment "Just Chat!" An unusual topic about the prize of a lottery one state is holding! GOOD STUFF!
