DAY 45: Leviticus 5-7
What does forgiveness actually repair?
In today’s episode of Five Minute Bible, we step into Leviticus 5–7, where God presses the reality of sin into the ordinary details of everyday life.
These chapters are not about dramatic rebellion or public scandal. They deal with quieter failures like carelessness, negligence, silence when truth should have been spoken, harm done without fully realizing its weight. And yet God treats these sins seriously. Even unintentional wrong still disrupts communion. Even hidden guilt still requires atonement.
Leviticus forces us to confront something we would rather avoid: forgiveness is not merely about relieving a guilty conscience. It is about restoring what sin has damaged. These chapters introduce restitution alongside sacrifice. Worship and ethics are inseparable. If someone has been wronged, repair must follow repentance.
That tension runs straight into our own lives. We often want peace with God without addressing the harm we have caused others. We want grace without responsibility. But Leviticus refuses that separation. God provides atonement, but He also calls for confession, honesty, and restoration. Grace does not erase accountability. It empowers it.
Yet even here, mercy is evident. God makes provision for those who cannot afford costly sacrifices. Forgiveness is not reserved for the wealthy or powerful. The way back to fellowship is open, but it is never casual.
As you read Leviticus 5–7 today, consider this question:
If God forgives guilt, what does that forgiveness require of me toward the people my sin has affected?
Tomorrow, we will move into Leviticus 8-10, where priests are consecrated for holy service and where we will see that drawing near to a holy God remains a serious and sobering calling.
