Once you adjust to your new found abundance of free time upon your retirement, you have to hunker down and formulate a game plan. But before putting pen to paper, you must have a conversation with yourself. You have to figure out who you are now, who do you want to be, and where do you want to be. Life is very different now that you are retired. You can no longer save lives or put out fires on a daily basis like you did for 20 years. But you can still be the guy who cared for and helped people. You can still be the kind of guy others can depend on. You have to now come to terms with yourself and reveal your true DNA. This process requires self awareness. Gary Vaynerchuk talks about this all the time; instilling in his Vaynernation that you should always go with your strengths and that if you do not stay true to who you are, your DNA, you will not succeed. So who are you? Who do you want to be and where do you want to be? I want to be living in Italy, sipping red wine while watching the sunset over the hills of Tuscany. The bottom line is this, my retired friends, do you, do it for you and do it every day.
