The Angry Prayer
Psalm 140
Isaac Bickford
How to pray an angry prayer:
1. State briefly what you want God to do: almost always a prayer for deliverance from evil people.
2. Understand and state clearly what those people do that is evil.
a. What are their characteristics and impacts on society as a whole?
b. What are their impacts on me?
3. Specify your request for justice. It’s ok to vent your emotions in a real way.
4. Remember God’s Holiness and that He is the source of deliverance.
5. Turn your attention from anger about the evil of others; instead focus on what you can do to protect others from those evil people. Vs. 12 – David would have understood that he, as King of Israel, had a special responsibility to carry out God’s justice and protection of the needy.
6. Give thanks, dwell in his presence. David doesn’t end with anger – he ends with praise and resting in God.
