4th stimulus check update: The latest on $2,000 petition, $1,000 for teachers, $600 in California. Has a fourth stimulus check lost all attention from Congress? It seems that way, but there's still public support for additional relief aid, including a petition calling for $2,000 extra per month. Washington lawmakers are keeping talk of another round of payments on the back burner this summer and there's nothing about another payment included in any of President Joe Biden's recent proposals. Signs of an economic rebound and the COVID-19 vaccine rollout could be factors, though it's still debatable how the recovery will play out.Â
Still, more money isn't entirely out of the question this year, at least for some. The IRS continues to send out supplemental "plus-up" payments for owed stimulus amounts, and the agency just issued monthly checks to millions of families that qualify for the expanded child tax credit. There are also $1,000 "thank you" payments going to teachers and other school staff in states such as Georgia and Florida. Soon, California will be disbursing another round of Golden State Stimulus checks, providing $600 (or up to $1,100) for millions of eligible residents.
