As we open up the BEP Vol. 2, "God's Call", Pastor Josh speaks on the remarkable test of faith in the story of Abraham and Isaac.
God had blessed Abraham with his son, Isaac, after he and Sarah waited for decades for him! That story of faith makes the command God gives Abraham in Genesis 22 that much more absurd. The Lord tasks Abraham with sacrificing Isaac. He had not been asked to do this because of a failure on Abraham’s end, but to see how far the Lord could test him! Testing, in this story, is tied to obedience. Not every test we experience is because of a lack of faith or a slip-up on our end. Sometimes, it can be because of our obedience and faith in God that He tests us. Without hesitation or question, he follows after what God has told him and begins the process to make the sacrifice. He does this because he knows God would provide, although he didn’t know how! Movement is also tied to obedience here. Sometimes, God needs us to move to show our faith in Him before He moves Himself. After proving himself, Abraham is stopped from killing his son and finds a ram caught by the horns to substitute. Finally, blessings are tied to obedience. If we can trust and have faith in God, no matter what He asks of us, He will bless us with the things that we need!
