Pastor Josh begins a new series looking at "God's Provision" for our lives through our sinful nature and the seasons that we encounter.
Genesis 3 is the infamous account of The Fall and how Adam and Eve's sinful nature allowed for it to hold power on earth, even in the modern-day context. This story, though, highlights important characteristics in God's nature. First, we see that God has a set standard for creation. Adam and Eve were tempted by the serpent because of how he skewed God's character in their eyes. He painted God as a withholder, while negating all that He had given Adam and Eve. They were literally walking with God, and still chose to view him as a selfish God that wouldn't give them anything. They broke this rule and standard He had given them, which in turn brought shame. After Adam and Eve are found hiding from God, He questions them. He obviously knew what had transpired and watched as Adam and Eve both made excuses pointing the blame down the chain. This is when God reveals the punishments for man, woman and the serpent. These are both permanent (man and hard work, woman and painful childbirth, the serpent and sliding on its belly) and immediate (expulsion from the garden). God clearly is just in His punishments and judgement. Above all of this though, we see God still provide for Adam and Eve in how he crafts garments for them to wear. These leather pieces of clothing show that though God will not be upstaged and will hold people accountable, He will always be there to provide for them!
