As we start our church’s Bible Engagement Project in our youth ministry, we begin “In the Beginning…” at the start of Genesis.
Genesis 1 is an extremely powerful piece of scripture. The fact that God spoke the entire universe into existence with only His words is incredible. We see that He did the work of creation, oversaw the form and the functionality of it, and declared its goodness. Creation glorifies God by its very existence, but God also wanted relationship. He created man and woman so that he could express Himself through them and with them. That’s why humans are different than every other thing God created; we are made in His image and likeness! We also see Genesis 1 as the introduction of God to the readers…us! Like any good book or TV show, God wants us to read about Him and know Him and grow closer to Him. We get the chance to have relationship with Him the same way that Adam and Eve had in the garden!
