February is a month of love and relationships. To kick it off, Pastor Josh begins a new series entitled "S.o.S" simply abbreviating the Old Testament Song of Solomon (or Song of Songs). Attraction is the beginning of the story in the book, and drives every event and emotion after it. It is the same in our romantic lives as well.
This verse-by-verse breakdown allows us to read about what attracted Solomon and this woman together. The important thing the both highlight is not their looks or status but their character. Solomon, this beautiful man, is looked at not for his attractiveness but his name. His very character. Likewise, the woman who directly speaks of her burnt skin and meager looks, is noticed not for her lack of attractiveness but her ability to honor and be committed to her love. In the same fashion, we must build our own character up and not be consumed with our appearance. Attraction is not merely physical. In fact, if it is heavily physical, the relationship becomes shallow and falls away very quickly. As we work on ourselves, we must also create standards that filter through people so we may be with those of great character. This two-fold approach to dating and relationships help us to have a Godly attraction to those of the opposite sex.
