Continuing the S.o.S series, Pastor Josh speaks on dating with the students. Dating, while not being a custom of Old Testament culture, is massively important in youth culture.
After reading about the attraction of Solomon and the Shulamite woman in only 7 verses, this week showcases their interaction in the courtyard and at the dining hall. This "date night" between the two depicts the infatuation they both share, and how they create time and space for their relationship to flourish. This time allows them to truly know each other moving forward. They also cultivate a healthy respect for one another that continues to deepen their relationship. This respect allows for the relationship to be taken into a place where a physical need is being urged. Solomon, in chapter 2, slows the advance down and urges his love to "not awaken love until it so desires." This puts restraint on the date, which is necessary for dating to be something that glorifies God. These three things: Time, Respect and Restraint, are the key to successful dating relationships.
