Description

In today’ Sunday Sermon, I’ll be talking about my first experience with magic mushrooms, sharing some wisdom that I believe will upgrade your life and business, and possibly, what Jesus meant when he said, “do this in remembrance of me.”

As I’ve started researching, studying and experiencing this world of psychedelics, it’s actually helped me understand a lot of what Jesus seemed to be teaching. I’m not a drug induced hippie who promotes drugs and plant medicine as a cure for all things. However, I believe all things in moderation can be a big help to growth and evolution here in humanity.

If you would have asked me two years ago if I would ever try a magic mushroom or any other plant-based medicine or psychedelic drugs, I would have said “Hell no.” I wouldn’t have done it.

Then fast forward to my daughter Zyrah’s birth, my wife and I had decided to have a home birth. When her contractions stopped, Sarah and I went to the hospital with our midwife as our plan B, but things still did not go as planned at the hospital. I remember feeling so numb. Three months later I found out that 1 in 10 men suffer from postpartum depression, and I became part of that statistic. I was depressed, and I needed help.

I found a therapist, and she recommended Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. After about five weeks of EMDR therapy, I felt like I had gotten out of this deep, dark well of emotions, and I knew I never wanted to go back into that well. I asked my therapist how I could fill the well and never fall back down it, and she turned the question around to me. My answer was psilocybin mushrooms.

The whole point of using magic mushrooms was to completely heal this chapter of my life. Before I went down this path, I did some research and found an article from NBC News. Researchers from the Johns Hopkins University have FDA approval to study the effects of psilocybin by giving it to volunteers in a clinical setting. Now to be clear…Psilocybin mushrooms are currently illegal in the US and are considered a Schedule One Controlled Substance.

The study found (in general terms) psilocybin to be beneficial for people who are stuck in a way of thinking or behaving. The effects can last longer than the five or so hours that volunteers are on the drug, with some substantial reductions in depression and anxiety six months later.

I decided to try psilocybin mushrooms, and I was told to take 5 grams, which many psychedelic experts call a Heroic Dose, and to go rent an AirBnB where there are hills and no distractions. I found a great place in Weatherford, Texas, so my wife and I booked it for a weekend in April, and I brought with me a sleeping bag, a water bottle full of water, a bluetooth speaker, a journal and a box of pictures of me from my childhood.

I hope you enjoyed this episode and thanks for listening, I hope you all were able to take something from my first experience with magic mushrooms. I invite you to remember who you are -- which is the soul in control. You are here to embody and express a specific purpose.
