Dr Antonis Chaldeos (PhD in History, University of Johannesburg) is an independent researcher and currently affiliated with the University of Johannesburg as a Research Associate. Antonis studied and published his research on the Greek presence in the horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia), Zambia, Tanzania, South Africa, Sudan, Morocco, Tunisia, Burundi and Ruanda, as well as the effects of the French and British colonialism and post-colonialism to the Greek populations in the respective countries, after extensive travelling both in Africa and Europe.

We discuss:

• the different streams of Greeks immigration to Africa at various eras,
• preserving a community by contributing to the local society and turbulent political and social changes,
• the cultural and economic impact of the Greek communities in their new homes,
• the future of the existing Greek communities in Africa under new external influencers,
• the role of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria in the various Greek- African communities.
