We talk a LOT about choosing joy, but we often don't talk about how messy the process is.
How difficult that choice can be when our circumstances are difficult and complicated and complex. At times, we talk about choosing joy the same way we say, "Just don't be sad!"
I think it's perfectly fine to acknowledge the messiness of choosing joy while also talking about how PIVOTAL it is that we fully depend on God in making that choice. Choosing joy isn't being dangerously (and blindly) optimistic; choosing joy is the acknowledgement of both your circumstances AND your God. And out of the overflow of joy comes true celebration, both for yourself and for others!
