Description

As Needed for Pain with Dan Peres As Needed for Pain with Dan Peres Dan was first exposed to opiates while recovering from an injury In 1995. By 2003 he was taking about 60 Vicodin a day. He would juggle multiple pain-management specialists at a time, limping and dragging his leg into the waiting room even though he was no longer in pain. On the outside Dan's life didn't resemble anything close to what most of us think an addict's life might look like - he was the editor in chief of Details Magazine and was earning a good living. But when Dan was asked what was really going on he said, "I was constantly in fear, constantly high, and I was taking pills from the moment I woke up." Dan recalls one particular story where a meeting with boxer Mike Tyson ended abruptly after running outside to vomit on the street. Although it was clear things were unmanageable, Dan just wasn't ready to give up the pills for good. Dan finally got clean with the help of an old friend in 2007 and found his way into a 12 Step program. He recently wrote a memoir about his experience which he hopes will encourage a positive change in the stigma that surrounds addiction. Dan's book, As Needed for Pain can be found on Amazon.
