Recovery is The New Black with Michelle Smith
As a wife and working mother of two, Michelle struggled for years with alcohol abuse.
She thought drinking wine while volunteering at her kid's school was maybe just "overdoing it" a little.
In reality, she was drinking to escape the stresses of life.
"I wasn't out barhopping and having fun, I was drinking in my closet alone."
After multiple visits to the hospital, in-patient rehabs, and run-ins with Child Protective Services, Michelle surrendered to the fact that she couldn't control her drinking.
Michelle started attending a 12-Step program where she found the value in connecting with other women who understood her and didn't judge her past.
Today Michelle is 3 years sober.
She founded Recovery is The New Black, where she counsels and coaches moms on how to find an alternative to a culture that tells us that alcohol is an accessory to motherhood.
