Shape of a Woman with Jen Elizabeth
If you were to ask Jen when her addiction started, she would say it began the day she was born.
Her childhood was unsafe and unstable due to her parent's addiction and mental health issues.
To make matters worse, her family joined a religious cult, where they lived for several years.
Jen turned to substances at a very young age as a way to escape the pain of sexual abuse.
"My entire addiction was a manifestation of trauma."
The seed of recovery was planted through multiple drug court sentences and it finally started to grow while Jen was serving time in prison.
Her sobriety date is May 1st of 2011.
Today Jen is a recovery advocate and author who helps others find hope and overcome guilt, shame, addiction, and trauma.
