The Gordon Ramsey of Recovery with Dr. Robb Kelly: Robb was born in Manchester England where he grew up in a family of musicians. He says that when he took his first drink at the age of 9 his whole world "lit up". It was this moment, he believes, that triggered his disease of alcoholism. Incredibly, he managed to stay on a path of success, performing in studio sessions with artists like Elton John and Queen, as well as continuing to pursue his Doctorate in Psychology at the University of Oxford. As his addiction progressed, his family and friends eventually refused to continue enabling him, which led to Robb living on the streets. After over a year of being homeless, the turning point came on a cold, rainy night during a moment of desperation. Robb was approached by a stranger who asked if he wanted help turning his life around. The man took Robb into his home and said he could stay under the condition that he attend AA meetings. Even though Robb hated AA he agreed, and eventually found a sponsor and completed working the steps. After seeing an incredible change in his attitude and life, he knew that if he continued doing what he had been taught, he would stay sober. That was over 28 years ago and Robb has been sober since. Today, Robb runs the Robb Kelly Recovery Group and is sometimes referred to as "The Gordon Ramsay of the Addiction Recovery" because of his direct, no-nonsense, and candid approach to treating addiction. He has discovered that in order to get his clients to change their thinking, they must confront their disease head on. Although he knows some of his methods may seem unconventional, they are based on extensive research and behavior studies that he has conducted over the last 20 years.
