Ruth 2-4 Summary
Chp 2. The famine is over and Naomi and Ruth have returned to Bethlehem. Ruth goes to a local field to glean barley. The field that she is gleaning at belongs to Boaz, which happens to be a relative of Naomi’s husband Elimelek. Boaz is a noble of character and very wealth. He takes notice of Ruth and extends favor to her because of her loyalty to Naomi her mother-in-law.
Chp 3 Once it’s discovered that Boaz is a relative, a plan is devised for Ruth to meet Boaz at the threshing floor to ask if he would be the guardian redeemer. As the redeemer, he would marry Ruth and acquire the land of Elimelek.
Chp 4 Boaz finds out that there is another family member closer than he is that is entitle to be the redeemer. The family member is informed that he has to marry Ruth, a Moabites and he declines the offer. Therefore Boaz would be next in line as the family redeemer. So he acquires the family property and marries Ruth. Ruth later gives birth to a son, Obed, which is the father of Jesse and Jesse, the father of David.
