Israel led by Joshua organised a strategized battle against Ai . God commanded that only animals (livestocks ) should be spared.

This chapter narrates how the gibeonites disguised and made a league with the Israelites .They were afraid that Israel would destroy their land so they pretended to be from a distant nation .
Joshua 10
Five kings around gibeon waged a war against it .meanwhile the gibeonites were already alies with Israel . Therefore Israel led by Joshua confronted the armies of the five kings . And they were utterly destroyed.
