Day 168 Job 9 to 13

The reading today continues the debate between Job and his friends regarding the reason for his suffering.

In chapter 9 Job is responding to the claims of Bildad in chapter 8 that he must have done something to deserve what’s happening to him because God does not distort or corrupt justice. And Job uses various images and metaphors in chapter 9 and asks whether anyone could win a case against God because God is so great that not even a righteous person could stand against Him.

Job continues in chapter 10 crying out of his pain and brokenness, asking what he can do to prove his innocence.

Chapter 11 introduces the third of Job’s friends, Zophar who continues the criticism of Job suggesting that it is impossible to understand God’s ways and His limits, and Job must repent so that his situation could improve.

Chapters 12 and 13 form Job’s response to Zophar and his friends. But in chapter 13 verse 20, Job switches to addressing God, pleading with God to withdraw His hand from him or at least tell him what sin he has committed.
