Bible summary
When we are afraid, David reminds us in chapter 56 to put our trust in God, to praise His word and to believe that God is for us. David wrote chapter 57 when he was fleeing from Saul and hiding in the cave. He cries out for mercy, but also encourages himself in the Lord by singing praises to God.
God is just and though the wicked may seem to go unpunished, chapter 58 assures us that there is a just end to their wickedness. That theme continues in chapter 59 where David laments the pursuit of enemies who are seeking to kill him, but he calls on the Lord as his defence and refuge.
The final chapters in today’s reading call for God’s presence and declares assurance of victory with God’s help; proclaims God’s stability as the rock that is above all circumstances and ends with the soul’s longing cry for satisfaction that is found only in God.
