This weeks episode of the Live Your Purpose Podcast I had the pleasure of virtually sitting with the one and only Rachel Cargle. Rachel is an entrepreneur, writer, activist and philanthropist. I spoke with Rachel about my personal appreciation and support of her and her work. She’s originally from Akron, she’s a Sagittarius (we definitely are the best sign by far), and more importantly she talks that shit to white folks in a way that is fearless, necessary and she knows what the hell she is talking about. She created the Loveland Group which has a series of companies including The Great Unlearn, Elizabeth’s of Akron, and The Loveland Foundation. The Loveland Foundation is groundbreaking, unique and powerful in providing support and financial coverage of mental health therapy for Black women and girls. Rachel spoke to us about her process of being strategic and intentional with forming relationships and the value of putting in real ground work to fulfill her dreams. In staying committed and present, she made national recognition after calling out the feminist movement, although being very beneficial, she criticized them for upholding white supremacy and oppression towards Black women. One of my favorite characteristics about Rachel that I appreciate most is her fearlessness and her commitment to taking action. I also asked Rachel about her definition of “freedom” and the value of it. We agreed that just “surviving” whiteness and oppression isn’t the way towards freedom, you must take it and take it today.
