The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 14:1 (NLT): "Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives - especially the ability to prophesy." The NIV translation puts it like this: "Eagerly desire the gifts of the Spirit, especially prophesy."
When God tells us to desire specific gifts, it's because He wants to give us them! Not because we've earned them or deserve them, but because He is our Good Father, who loves to give gifts to His children.
