Description

History is full of people's whose societies exist for but a moment before they are snuffed out by internal or external forces. The Chagossians of the Chagos Islands were one of these communities. This week Kalvin and Nick dive into a story of small island life dominated by the cash crops of their day, displacement, empires, and the machines of war. A serene atoll chain sparsely populated before a socioeconomic boom is at the center of this episode, as a people fade into history, but not before leaving behind a culture unique to themselves. As always join the discussion on Twitter @APASomething and @alone_podcast and let us know what you think of the Chagos islands.
