Matthew is one half of BritTrax, a talented writer, and a very nice guy. We talk about Sherlock Holmes, RiffTrax, 70s educational films, and our shared experiences working in both book stores and cinemas.
You can find some of his stuff at BritTrax | RiffTrax, Matthew J Elliott - Contributions - Big Finish, and Murder and the Murdochs – Imagination Theater, Detective Harry Nile, Sherlock Holmes Radio Mysteries, Jim French Productions
Time got away from me and I neglected to ask two questions I had prepared before the interview, so I contacted him via IM to ask what's it like writing for a character in Seattle in the 50's, when presumably, you've not been there, and how did your parents react when you told them you wanted to be a writer?
His responses below:
1) I keep a detailed file of every previous episode of Harry Nile - I call it "the Nile File", highlighting any noteworthy locations and relevant details relating to 1950s.
2) I don't remember ever not wanting to be a writer, really, although my desire to do so probably coincided with my discovery of Marvel comics. Sadly, neither of my parents lived to see me fulfil my dream.
