My sisters and brothers, Cornfritters and Kolaches is our podcast song today. This podcast is about the Prairieland Country Fest and how this song was born. My friends, I know what you’re thinking, because it’s what I also was thinking, how can a song be called Cornfritters and Kolaches? Right? I hear you. But I assure you, it is. It was the year of 1991 in the Prairies of Nebraska, with their corn husking and all their pig and cow farms everywhere. Every year there would be a Hugh festival going on at one of the larger Country Festivals. This place is called Prairieland Country Fest, and they have their own camping ground for the public, making them the largest! These Country Festivals are so entertaining and so interesting with all their different kinds of crafts and events and shows going on. Families love these for there’s something for everyone. This year they were having a Songwriter’s event. Though I was no stranger in performing at Country festivals all over, this would be my first for a Songwriter’s event. I know, you’re thinking why wouldn’t I want to, Right? The truth is, I just never gave it any thought. While singing, writing and praising the Lord is my passion, I just wasn’t sure about a songwriter’s event. Now after all the artists did their performances, we were all backstage together when the festival’s owner came over to us and asked for us to be part of a songwriter’s event. It took me some time to think about it but I did come around, and after agreeing, he went onto the stage and announced to the people at the festival, that this following week they will be having a songwriters event opened to everyone. Then he called us up onto the stage again and said, our performers will be participating. They had a big barrel type looking hat on stage, what seemed to be filled with lots of tiny pieces of paper. We each were told to pull one out and hold on to it until further notice. After everyone who was going to be part of this event, (way too many to count), we were all told this: Look at your piece of paper. What ever is written on that piece of paper has to be the Title of your song, and that Title must be included in your song, after everyone has performed their song, 10 singers will be chosen for their broadcast studio to record their new Prairieland Country Fest. of 1991 Cassettes, with 5 songs on each side. Then he said; go now and do this and return next week with your new song. My piece of paper? It said, Cornfritters and Kolaches. Wow, what is Kolaches? Now I know I needed to find a Library! We didn’t have cell phones or computers back then, this was 1991!
