My sisters and brothers, our podcast song is, ‘Lead Me Lord’, and today we will be continuing into our forth song segment of our book, ‘Journey with Trust and Fire Within’. Lead me Lord was written in 1978 but like many of my songs in those early years, it would not be recorded till many years later. It was written at a time in my life where I could feel the power of God’s work coming alive in me, and at the same time I would encounter so many disturbances in my life, trying to keep me from following the path of Jesus. Doing as you know the Lord wills you to do may be, or not, easy, but the hard part is dodging all the interferences that so desperately want to stop you. However, being persistent in following the lead of the Holy Spirit, and paying no mind to the criticisms you are receiving, from people in every circle of your life and even those you deeply love, you receive inner strength and a deeper joy because God’s work is in you.
I became one of the music leaders for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with a girl I befriended named Pam who sang the best harmonies I ever heard. I was also doing country, opry, and gospel shows there. I had my own band plus was in other country bands and a great gospel band, which I loved most of all. The leader’s name in the gospel band is Francine, and she and I became very good friends. As in Francine’s life, gospel and spiritual songs and sharing about God in my life made me come alive.
