Ryan and Matt are joined by Lisa DeSouza, the director of the Santa Clarita International Film Festival, or SCIFF, a massive event intended to bring artists from far and wide to celebrate and display their work in the fast-growing L.A. suburban town. We talk about the stumbles going into last December's first SCIFF, which Lisa and Matt witnessed firsthand (he wrote about it in a long piece for The SCV Proclaimer), the changes and lack thereof in the Santa Clarita Valley when it comes to change, the arts and the waves of new people coming to express themselves in what has historically been a town marked by white flight, NIMBYism and antipathy towards Los Angeles and Hollywood. Lisa also talks about this year's SCIFF, with the hope it continues to expand and grow its niche within the strata of SCV culture and history. Did we forget to mention Ryan will be a judge at this year's SCIFF?
For anyone interested in volunteering or submitting their work to be showcased during SCIFF, head on over to sciff.org. It will be held from Dec. 8-11 with an opening for comedy and music on Dec. 9 and an award show on Dec. 11.
For Matt's massive story detailing the day-by-day of SCIFF 2021 read it here, while Sebastian's cartoon regarding last year's controversy can be accessed here. To hear our discussion about SCIFF on this show last year, tune in to our Season Two finale "Angel City Threads."
