Developing teachers’ sociopolitical awareness is yet another foundational tool to becoming a conscious educator. Having classrooms with teachers who have a depth in understanding of the systems and institutions in which they teach and the effects of the policies they put in place have on students and families is essential to teachers being able to use education as tool for empowerment not oppression.
