ಕಾಲ ಎಂದರೆ ಸದಾ ಉರುಳುತ್ತಿರುವ, ಮುನ್ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ, ಮತ್ತು ಕಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಮಯ; ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಆವರಿಸಿರುವ ವಿಷ್ಣು, ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಮೀರಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕೂ ಮೂಲ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮ ಶಿವ, ಅವ್ಯಕ್ತದಿಂದ ಹೊಡಕರಿಸಿದ ಕೃಷ್ಣ, ಮತ್ತು ಕಪ್ಪು ಎನ್ನುವ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಅರ್ಥಗಳು. ಶಿವ ಎಂದರೆ ಶುಭ್ರ, ಬಿಳಿ ಕೂಡ. "ನೀ ಯಾರು ಹೇಳು" ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಜುನ ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು, " ಕಾಲೋಽಸ್ಮಿ, ಲೋಕಕ್ಷಯಕೃತ್ಪ್ರವೃದ್ಧಃ, ಲೋಕಗಳನಳಿಸುವ ಮಹಾನ್ ಕಾಲ ನಾನು." ...
